ประวัติ Cat Stevens
Steven Demetre Georgiou เกิดเมื่อวันที่ 21 กรกฏาคม 1948 โดยมีบิดาเป็นชาวกรีกและมารดาเป็นชาวสวีเดน ปัจจุบันเขาอายุ 60 ปี และเป็นนักร้อง นักแต่งเพลง ในแนว Folk Rock, Pop, Nashedd ในช่วงปี 1966 -1980 เขาได้ใช้ชื่อในการแสดงว่า Cat Stevens และในปี 1995 ถึงปัจจุบันเขาได้ใช้ชื่อ Yusuf Islam ผลงานเพลงของเขามีออกมามากมาย และขายได้มากกว่า 60 ล้านอัลบั้มตั้งแต่ช่วงปี 1960 เป็นต้นมา โดยอัลบั้ม Tea for the Tillerman และ Teaser and the Firecat เป็นอัลบั้มที่มียจอดจำหน่ายสูงสุด โดยได้รับรางวัล Triple Platinum โดย RIAA ใน สหรัฐอเมริกา และอัลบั้ม Cath Bull at Four ก็สามารถทำยอดขายได้ถึง 500,000 ก็อบปี้ภายในเพียงแค่ 2 สัปดาห์ที่วางจำหน่าย และติดอันดับ บิลบอร์ดชาร์จ ต่อเนื่องถึง 3 สัปดาห์. จากผลงานการแต่งเพลงของเขาทำให้เขาได้รับรางวัล ADCAP songwriting awards จากงานเพลง “The First Cut Is the Deepest” ซึ่งสามารถฮิตติดอันดับโดยการนำมาร้องใหม่ของนักร้องถึง 5 คนด้วยกัน คือP.P. Arnold (1967), Keith Hampshire (1973), Rod Stewart (1977) Sheryl Crow (2003), และ James Morrison (2006).
ในช่วงผลงานเพลงของเขาที่โด่งดังใน ปี 1970 Cat Stevens มีอัลบั้มต่อเนื่องกันถึง 8 ชุด ซึ่งได้รางวัลแผ่นเสียงทองคำติดต่อกัน และ มีผลงานเพลงถึง 10 เพลงที่ฮิตติดอับดับ Chart เพลงในอังกฤษ และ 14 เพลงในอเมริกา ผลงานอัลบั้มที่เป็นที่รู้จักกันมาคือ Teaser and the Firecats, Catch Bull at Four, Buddah and the Chocolate Box. ผลงานเพลงที่เขารักมาก คือ ชุด “Peace Train” “Moon Shadow” “Morning has Broken”, “Father and Son” และเพลง “Oh Very Young”
เขาได้เปลี่ยนชื่อมาเป็น Yusuf Islama ในปลายปี 1977 และได้ขาย เครื่องดนตรีของเขารวมถึงรางวัลต่างๆ ที่ได้รับมาเพื่อบริจาคเงินให้กับการกุศล และอุทิศตนให้กับงานด้านการศึกษา และการช่วยเหลือต่างๆ ให้กับกลุ่มชาวมุสลิม เขาได้รับรางวัลมากมายในการอุทิศแรงกายแรงใจให้กับสังคม โดยเฉพาะงานที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการเรียกร้องสันติภาพให้กับโลก ในปี 2004 ได้รับรางวัล Man for Peace award และในปี 2007 ได้รับรางวัล Mediterranean Prize for Peace และในปี 2006 เขาได้ออกอัลบั้ม แนวป๊อบ ซึ่งเป็นอัลบั้มแรกหลังจากห่างหายไปนานถึง 28 ปี กับอัลบั้มที่มีชื่อว่า An Other Cup ปัจจุบันเขาใช้ชีวิตอยู่กับภรรยาและลูกๆ ของเขาที่ลอนดอนและใช้เวลาทุกๆ ปีในการเดินทางไปประเทศดูไบ เขาเป็นต้นเสียงที่สำคัญในการต่อต้านการทำสงครามในอิรักของสหรัฐอเมริกา และ ได้ตกเป็นชื่อบุคคลที่ต้องจับตามอง ของ U.S. government security watch list
