บทเพลงนี้แต่งขึ้นโดย Cat Stevens ในปี 1970 บทเพลงกล่าวถึงความคิดที่แตกต่างกันระหว่างพ่อและลูกชาย โดยลูกชายต้องการแสดงออกถึงการใช้วิถีชีวิตที่ต่างไปจากรูปแบบชีวิตเดิมๆ ที่เป็นอยู่ และพ่อพยายามอธิบายถึงวิถีชีวิตที่เป็นอยู่ว่าดีอย่างไรและมีความสุขได้อย่างไร  ความขัดแย้งที่เกิดขึ้นเหมือนต่างฝ่ายถือว่าตนถูกต้อง ดังนั้นท้ายสุดลูกชายจึงหาทางออกว่า เขาต้องไปเพื่อมีชีวิตที่เขาต้องการ หรือ I know I have to go away ...... ในขณะที่พ่อร้องขอให้ลูกชายจงอยู่ และทำไมต้องไปและตัดสินใจทุกสิ่งอย่างลำพังเพียงคนเดียว   “ stay, why must you go and make this decision alone? ”  บทเพลงนี้นอกจากจะสะท้อนถึงความคิดที่ขัดแย้งกันในสังคมแล้วยังสามารถอธิบายถึงความขัดแย้งทางความคิดที่เป็นจริงเสมอสำหรับ คนรุ่นก่อนและคนรุ่นใหม่ ซึ่งต่างก็มีมุมมองและความคิดในการมองชีวิตที่แตกต่างกัน จากทั้งประสบการณ์ในการใช้ชีวิต รวมถึงกาลเวลาที่เปลี่ยนแปลงไปกับยุคสมัยที่เปลี่ยนแปลงและมุมมองของคนรุ่นใหม่ที่มุ่งถึงความสุขทางใจและเสรีภาพในการใช้ชีวิตที่อิสระเสรี มากกว่าคนรุ่นก่อน ก่อให้เกิดความขัดแย้งระหว่างรุ่นต่อรุ่น เรียกได้ว่าบทเพลงนี้สะท้อนสังคมในเรื่องของความขัดแย้งที่เกิดขึ้นเสมอในปัจจุบันนี้ได้เป็นอย่างดี แต่อย่างไรก็ดีในความขัดแย้งนี้ ท่วงทำนองของเพลงกลับขับกล่อมออกมาอย่างช้าๆ และค่อยเป็นค่อยไป สะท้อนให้เห็นถึงความรักความห่วงใยที่พ่อมีให้กับลูกชายเสมอ รวมถึงเสียงร้องของ Cat Steven ในช่วงบทของพ่อที่แสดงออกให้เห็นอย่างชัดเจน .... 

 Cat Steven ใช้เทคนิคการร้องเพลงโดยการแบ่งเป็น 2 ภาค โดยภาคที่เป็นบทร้องของพ่อเขาจะใช้เสียงที่ค่อนข้างต่ำ ทุ้ม ส่วนในส่วนของบทร้องที่เป็นท่อนของลูกชายจะใช้โทนเสียงที่สูง เพื่อแสดงถึงความแตกต่างในการแสดงอารมณ์และความคิด โดยมี Alun Davies คอยร้องประสานเสียงในท่อน "No", "Go and make this decision" โดยร้องประสานอย่างแผ่วเบา นุ่มนวล  และเพิ่มเสียงให้แน่นขึ้นในช่วงจบของเพลง 

     เมื่อฟังเพลงนี้จบแล้ว หวังว่าคุณผู้ฟังทุกท่านนอกจากจะได้ฟังเพลงที่ไพเราะแล้วจะได้แง่คิดในการจัดการกับความขัดแย้งที่เกิดขึ้นกับทุกสิ่งรอบตัวเรา โดยเฉพาะความขัดแย้งที่เกิดขึ้นภายในครอบครัว อย่าให้ต่างคนต่างไปตามทางของตน แต่จงให้ทำให้สิ่งที่ตนต้องการอย่างใจเถิดโดยมีกำลังใจและความรักของคนในครอบครัวเคียงข้างเสมอ.....

 

ประวัติ Cat Stevens 

      Steven Demetre Georgiou เกิดเมื่อวันที่ 21 กรกฏาคม 1948 โดยมีบิดาเป็นชาวกรีกและมารดาเป็นชาวสวีเดน ปัจจุบันเขาอายุ 60 ปี และเป็นนักร้อง นักแต่งเพลง ในแนว Folk Rock, Pop, Nashedd  ในช่วงปี 1966 -1980 เขาได้ใช้ชื่อในการแสดงว่า Cat Stevens และในปี 1995 ถึงปัจจุบันเขาได้ใช้ชื่อ Yusuf Islam ผลงานเพลงของเขามีออกมามากมาย และขายได้มากกว่า 60 ล้านอัลบั้มตั้งแต่ช่วงปี 1960 เป็นต้นมา โดยอัลบั้ม Tea for the Tillerman และ Teaser and the Firecat  เป็นอัลบั้มที่มียจอดจำหน่ายสูงสุด โดยได้รับรางวัล Triple Platinum โดย RIAA ใน สหรัฐอเมริกา และอัลบั้ม Cath Bull at Four ก็สามารถทำยอดขายได้ถึง 500,000 ก็อบปี้ภายในเพียงแค่ 2 สัปดาห์ที่วางจำหน่าย และติดอันดับ บิลบอร์ดชาร์จ ต่อเนื่องถึง 3 สัปดาห์. จากผลงานการแต่งเพลงของเขาทำให้เขาได้รับรางวัล ADCAP songwriting awards จากงานเพลง “The First Cut Is the Deepest” ซึ่งสามารถฮิตติดอันดับโดยการนำมาร้องใหม่ของนักร้องถึง 5 คนด้วยกัน คือP.P. Arnold (1967), Keith Hampshire (1973), Rod Stewart (1977) Sheryl Crow (2003), และ James Morrison (2006).

                   

 ในช่วงผลงานเพลงของเขาที่โด่งดังใน ปี 1970 Cat Stevens มีอัลบั้มต่อเนื่องกันถึง 8 ชุด ซึ่งได้รางวัลแผ่นเสียงทองคำติดต่อกัน และ มีผลงานเพลงถึง 10 เพลงที่ฮิตติดอับดับ Chart เพลงในอังกฤษ และ 14 เพลงในอเมริกา ผลงานอัลบั้มที่เป็นที่รู้จักกันมาคือ Teaser and the Firecats, Catch Bull at Four, Buddah and the Chocolate Box. ผลงานเพลงที่เขารักมาก คือ ชุด “Peace Train” “Moon Shadow” “Morning has Broken”, “Father and Son” และเพลง “Oh Very Young”

            เขาได้เปลี่ยนชื่อมาเป็น Yusuf Islama ในปลายปี 1977 และได้ขาย เครื่องดนตรีของเขารวมถึงรางวัลต่างๆ ที่ได้รับมาเพื่อบริจาคเงินให้กับการกุศล และอุทิศตนให้กับงานด้านการศึกษา และการช่วยเหลือต่างๆ ให้กับกลุ่มชาวมุสลิม เขาได้รับรางวัลมากมายในการอุทิศแรงกายแรงใจให้กับสังคม โดยเฉพาะงานที่เกี่ยวข้องกับการเรียกร้องสันติภาพให้กับโลก ในปี 2004 ได้รับรางวัล Man for Peace award และในปี 2007 ได้รับรางวัล Mediterranean Prize for Peace และในปี 2006 เขาได้ออกอัลบั้ม แนวป๊อบ ซึ่งเป็นอัลบั้มแรกหลังจากห่างหายไปนานถึง 28 ปี กับอัลบั้มที่มีชื่อว่า An Other Cup  ปัจจุบันเขาใช้ชีวิตอยู่กับภรรยาและลูกๆ ของเขาที่ลอนดอนและใช้เวลาทุกๆ ปีในการเดินทางไปประเทศดูไบ เขาเป็นต้นเสียงที่สำคัญในการต่อต้านการทำสงครามในอิรักของสหรัฐอเมริกา และ ได้ตกเป็นชื่อบุคคลที่ต้องจับตามอง ของ U.S. government security watch list
