เกิดเมื่อวันที่ 28 มกราคม ค.ศ. 1968 ปัจจุบันเธออายุ 41 ปี เธอเป็นนักร้องชาวแคนาดา ที่มีเสียงไพรเราะและสามารถแสดงความรู้สึกทางอารมณ์ผ่านเสียงของเธอได้อย่างยอดเยี่ยมโดยเฉพาะแนวการร้องเพลง Ballads และ มีเสียงช่วง mezzo-oprano. เพลงที่ทำให้เธอเป็นที่รู้จัก คือเพลง "Angle", "Building a Mystery", "Adia", "Possession", "Fallen", "I will Remember You" และเพลง "World on Fire" .ในปี 2006 เธอสามารถขายอัลบั้มของเธอไปทั่วโลกได้มากกว่า 40 ล้านอัลบั้ม และชุดที่ได้รับความนิยมมากที่สุดคือชุด Surfacing ซึ่งมีเพลงในอัลบั้มนี้ที่ได้รับรางวัล Grammy Awards และรางวัล Juno Awards นอกจากนั้นเธอยังได้ก่อตั้ง Lilith Fair ซึ่งเป็นการแสดงคอนเสิร์ตและการทัวร์คอนเสิร์ตของศิลปินชาวแคนาดา โดยเฉพาะเป็นศิลปินหญิง ซึ่งได้เริ่มต้นในปี 1997 - 1999

ปี 1999 ได้ทำผลงานเพลง " I will Remember You" ซึ่งได้ใช้เป็นเพลงประกอบภาพยนตร์เรื่อง The Brothers Mcmullen และได้รวมงานเพลงนี้อยู่ในอัลบั้มชุด Mirrorball และในปีเดียวกันเธอได้ร้องเพลงของ Randy Newman "When She loved Me" เพื่อประกอบภาพยนตร์เรื่อง Toy Story โดยทั้งสองเพลงได้เป็นเพลงที่ถูกนำเสนอชื่อในงานรางวัลออสการ์ แต่ไม่ได้รับรางวัล ปีนั้น "You'll Be in My Heart" ที่ขับร้องโดย Phil Colins ประกอบภาพยนตร์เรื่อง Tarzan ได้รับรางวัลไป
ปี 2003 เธอได้ออกทัวร์คอนเสิร์ต กับการออกอัลบั้ม 3 ชุด คือ Afterglow ซึ่งมีเพลง "Fallen", "Stupid", "World on Fire" โดยเฉพาะได้จัดทำ Music Video ของเพลง "World on Fire" และได้บริจาคเงินจากรายได้ที่ได้นี้ให้กับมูลนิธิและการกุศลต่างๆ ไปทั่วโลก
ผลงานล่าสุดของเธอคือ "Winter Song" โดย Arista Records และอัลบั้มใหม่นี้มีการบันทึกเพลงใหม่ทั้งหมด 11 เพลง โดยเป็นการนำเลงมาขับร้องใหม่เช่น เพลง "River" ของ Joni Mitchell, "Song for the winter's night" ของ Gordon Lightfoot, "Happy Xmas (War is Over)" ของ JOhn Lennon และมีบทเพลงเกี่ยวกับ Christmas อีกหลายบทเพลง โดยขับร้องในสไตล์ของเธอ โดยอัลบั้มชุดนี้ทำได้ถึงอันที่ที่ 42 ใน BillBoard 200 Albumในเดือนพฤศจิกายน และได้นำเสนอชื่อเพื่อชิงรางวัล Grammy Award ในสาขา Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album และ ในรางวัล Juno เช่นเดียวกัน ในสาขา Pop Album of the Year.
