“It’s To late” เพลงรักบอกลาที่มีเสน่ห์เพลงหนึ่งในปี 1971 เป็นเพลงที่มีทำนองที่สนุกสนาน แต่เนื้อหาบอกล่าวถึงความรักที่ถึงทางตัน สายเกินไปที่จะเริ่มต้นใหม่ โดยเฉพาะท่อนที่บรรยายความรู้สึกได้ดีอย่าง Now you look so unhappy, and I feel like a fool… Carole King ร้องเพลงนี้ได้อย่างน่ารักและมีเสน่ห์ โดยเฉพาะการแสดงคอนเสิร์ต ของเธอร่วมกับ James Tayler ทำให้เห็นถึงความสามารถของเธอในการเล่นเปียโนร่วมกับการร้องเพลง ได้อย่างเป็นธรรมชาติ การร้องเพลงของเธอและอามรมณ์ขันของเธอที่แทรกในบทเพลง ทำให้ผู้ชม มีความสุข และรู้สึกสนุกไปกับบทเพลงนี้ ทั้งๆที่น่าจะเป็นบทเพลงแสนเศร้า แต่กลับเป็นเพลงเศร้าที่ร้องได้สนุกเหมือนกับเพลงรักแรกเริ่มทีเดียว หรืออาจจะสะท้อนให้เห็นว่าการลาจากกันเป็นเรื่องธรรมดา ที่ทั้งสองฝ่ายทราบดีว่าเมื่อไปกันไม่ได้แล้ว การแยกจากกันเป็นเรื่องที่สามารถเกิดขึ้นได้ และมีมิตรภาพของคำว่า ”เพื่อน” เข้ามาแทนที่ ก็คงทำให้ความเจ็บปวดในการจากลาน้อยลงไป คล้ายคลึงกับชีวิตส่วนตัวของเธอทีเดียว

Carole King เกิดเมื่อวันที่ 9 ก.พ. 1942 เป็นชาวอเมริกัน เป็นนักแต่งเพลง นักร้องและเล่นเปียโน เธอได้รับรางวัล Grammy Award ถึง 4 ครั้งในตลอดชีวิตการทำงานของเธอ และยังถูกนำเสนอเป็น Song Writer Hall of Fame และ Rock and Roll Hall of Fame จากผลงานเขียนเพลงของเธอร่วมกับ Gerry Goffin เพื่อนคู่ใจของเธอ

Carole King ประสบความสำเร็จครั้งแรกในปี 1962 “It’s might as well rain until September” ไต่ขึ้นอันดับ 22 ใน US. และ ติด Top 10 ในอังกฤษ แต่หลังจากผลงานเพลง “ He’s a Bad Boy” ติดอันดับ ที่ 94 ใน US. ก็ไม่มีผลงานเพลงที่ติดอันดับ 100 เลยเป็นระยะเวลากว่า 8 ปี ....หลังจากนั้นไม่นาน Carole King ได้หย่าขาดกับ Gerry Goffin แล้วเริ่มต้นงานเพลงกับ Danny Kortchmar ตั้งกลุ่ม “The City” ออกอัลบั้ม Now That everything’s been said แต่ยอดขายก็ไม่ดีเท่าไหร่นัก และออกอัลบั้มชุดสอง “Writer” ในปี 1970 แต่ก็ไม่ประสบความสำเร็จในยอดขายเช่นกัน Carole King ได้นำแนวเพลง Folk-song ซึ่งเธอเคยเขียนไว้ในช่วงต้นการทำงานดนตรีของเธอนำมาประสานเรียบเรียงใหม่ กลายเป็นอัลบั้ม “Tapestry” ในปี 1971 ซึ่งเทปชุดนี้เป็นจุดเปลี่ยนในชีวิตดนตรีของเธอเลยทีเดียว เมื่อออกวางแผง สามารถทำยอดขายถล่มทลายกว่า 10 ล้านแผ่น ใน US ยังไม่รวมยอดขายจากทั่วโลกที่คาดว่าจะมียอดสูงถึง 22 ล้านแผ่น

อัลบั้มชุดนี้ได้รับรางวัลมากมาย ไม่ว่าจะเป็นเพลง It’s too late ที่ได้รับรางวัล Best Pop Vocal Perfromance, เพลง You’ve got a friend ที่ได้รับรางวัล Song of the year เพลง Music , Rhymes and Reasons, Wrap Around Joy ทำให้อัลบั้มชุดนี้ อยู่ในลำดับที่ 36 ในบันทึกของ Rolling Stone’s 500 Greatest Albums of all time. และเพลง IT’s too late ก็ถูกบรรจุไว้ในลำดับที่ 469 ใน Rolling Stone’s 500 greatest songs of all time.
